How is life working onboard an oil rig?

Question: I have no idea how life's working onboard an oil rig, could somebody enlighten me?

Answer: Well i have worked on rigs all over the world for the last 6 years. I have worked on Semi-Subs, jack up's, Drill ships and land rigs and i hate them all. Land rigs are slightly better cos you can get away from the rig for a while. Mostly though it isnt a nice life. Alot of rigs are 4-8 men cabins with people on all different shifts. You never get a minute to yourself. Alot of new rigs i.e in Norway and UK are alot bigger now and are 2 men rooms with the other guy on the opposite shift which makes for a better life while offshore. Remembering that we are out the for between 1 month and 2 months this is an important thing. Food is normally crap and it is a noisy place to be. So comfort level on most rigs is very low. There are some luxury rigs out there somewhere but i have not been able to find them yet.
